Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is a metropolitan municipality that forms the local government of the East Rand region of Gauteng, South Africa. The name “Ekurhuleni” means “place of peace” in the Tsonga languague. Ekurhuleni is one of the five districs of the Gauteng province (Johannesburg & Pretoria) and one of the eight metropolitan municipalities of South Africa. The population consist of more than 3 million inhabitants.
The support of LuxMobility was in the period April – July 2014. The project was completed in January 2015.
Role LuxMobility
LuxMobility was responsible for the delivery of specialized traffic control engineers (from the Netherlands) for the local consulting firm ITS Engineers. Main goal of the project was to optimize more than 100 traffic controllers of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. The first step was to visualize and archive the existing traffic control situation (signalgroups, greentimes, cycle times, offsets). And then to optimize (co-ordination, offset, cycletime, split) this controllers, by using specialized software as TruTraffic. Signalplans for different clock periods (morning peak, peak-off hours, and son on) were included in a report.
